Common questions
- Cancel or manage your subscription. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, then Julienne Pro. Apple’s instructions walk through the full flow.
- Restore a previous purchase. In Julienne, go to Settings → Subscription and tap Restore Purchases. You’ll need to be signed into the same Apple ID that made the original purchase.
- Delete your account and all data. In Julienne, go to Settings → Delete Account. This wipes your account and every row of data tied to it across our database. The action cannot be undone.
- Receipt scan isn’t reading items correctly. Lay the receipt flat, make sure it’s well lit, and capture the full printed area in frame. If items are still missing, email us a description of the receipt format (which store, paper or digital) and we’ll work on adding support.
- Notifications aren’t arriving. Open iOS Settings → Notifications → Julienne and confirm Allow Notifications is on. Then in Julienne, check Settings → Reminders to make sure your preferred reminder type is enabled.
- Free tier limits. Free includes 20 chats per week (reset Mondays) and 5 receipt scans to get started. Julienne Pro lifts both caps. The first week of Pro is free; cancel anytime in Apple’s Subscriptions screen.
Reporting a bug or have a feature idea? Same email: jakemil2114@gmail.com. Including your iOS version and a screenshot helps us reproduce things faster.
This policy describes how the Julienne iOS app (“Julienne”, “we”) handles your information.
Information we collect
When you use Julienne, we collect and store:
- Account information — your email address, Apple ID identifier (if you sign in with Apple), and an internal user ID. Used to authenticate you and sync your data across devices.
- Cooking data you create — recipes you save, notebook entries, chat messages with Juli (our cooking assistant), meal plans, cooking events you log, and ingredient inventory. Stored so the app works across sessions and devices.
- Receipt images you choose to scan — when you scan a grocery receipt, the image is processed to extract items. Images may be retained temporarily to improve normalization quality and are deleted on a schedule.
- Usage events — non-identifying analytics about how you use the app (which screens you view, which features you trigger, error counts). Used to improve the product. No raw chat text or personal content is sent in these events.
- Subscription state — if you subscribe to Julienne Pro, we receive the subscription status, product ID, and expiration date from Apple via the App Store Server API. We do not receive your Apple payment information.
We do not collect: precise location, contacts, photos beyond receipts you explicitly scan, microphone audio, or health data.
How we use your information
- To provide the app’s core features (saving recipes, syncing across devices, generating meal suggestions, recognizing what’s in your kitchen)
- To send chat messages to our AI provider on your behalf (see “Third-party services” below)
- To manage your subscription and entitlements
- To send notifications you’ve opted into (cooking reminders, weekly recaps)
- To debug crashes and improve reliability
Third-party services
Julienne uses these services to operate:
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store / TestFlight, In-App Purchases, push and local notifications, App Store Server Notifications. Subject to Apple’s privacy policy.
- Supabase — our backend database and authentication provider. Stores your account and the cooking data described above. Hosted in the United States.
- Anthropic on Amazon Web Services (Bedrock) — powers the Juli chat assistant. Chat messages you send to Juli are forwarded to this service to generate replies. Per our agreement, these messages are not used to train models.
We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). This action:
- Removes your authentication record
- Deletes all rows tied to your user ID across our database (recipes, chats, notebook, events, subscription history, profile)
- Cannot be undone
Receipt images are deleted on a rolling schedule shorter than 90 days. Anonymized usage event logs may be retained longer for trend analysis.
Children
Julienne is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use HTTPS for all communication. Authentication uses Apple-signed tokens (Sign in with Apple) or one-time email links. Your data is protected by row-level security rules so that one user’s data is never readable by another.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
